The forced resignation of a Santa Fe teacher begs the question, how much privacy is a public educator entitled to.

Christina Cracraft believes she was forced to resign because parents and the district’s administration could not accept the fact that she is a transsexual who also dances in burlesque shows.

“I’m a school teacher, a pianist, and a showgirl,” Cracraft said.

Being a teacher at Gonzales Community School by day and a showgirl by night may seem like a paradox, but Cracraft said she made it work and her employer, Santa Fe Public Schools, were encouraging at first.

“I transitioned as a Santa Fe schools employee,” Cracraft said. “I started teaching as a male and [the district] supported me all the way through my transition.”
